We’re featuring the next episode on ulive! It’s called Spring Flower Bouquet. We know we are just heading into winter, but we thought this episode could give us a peek out the other side. The practice of picking wild daffodils will forever be our favorite way to welcome Spring.
There was some serious question about whether we would be able to even make this episode. We love how it turned out, but how it turned out hinged on a couple last minute desperation turns to find a workable location, and improvisation. There is not a very big window for these wild daffodils in Normandy, too early and none are in bloom, too late, and they are mostly dead. Last year’s winter (when this was filmed) was so long, we didn’t know when the flowers would be out. And then on the day we had scheduled this shoot, our usual spot for gathering the flowers turned out to be a much more complicated location than we had anticipated. So we considered just dropping it, and making another episode instead.
This episode was really 5 minutes from being cancelled. But we took a last minute turn on a different road and found to our huge relief the glory of the flowers you see in the video. And as has happened a few times, we think the new spot and new direction the episode took turned out to be better than what we originally had in mind. We also weren’t sure how to end the episode–it was a sort of holiday, so people weren’t out and about like normal, but once again, a last minute turn on a different road took us to the current ending. The original idea was that only Maude would deliver a bouquet at the end, but that’s why you should just keep the cameras rolling. We love June’s improvisation, and that Tiger in a Jar knew to keep rolling. We think it’s the perfect ending to the episode. We love what these last minute adjustments and improvisations resulted in, and hope you do too. So perhaps this episode should be called “In celebration of improv”. What do you think?
